This newsletter is getting an upgrade … I hope
One of my proudest achievements is writing these newsletters to all of you.
I don’t make any money from it.
I don’t have 10s of thousands of readers.
And I get very little direct feedback from you guys as to whether or not you even enjoy my content.
All I have to go off is the steadily increasing number of people who open my emails.
But I have persisted.
And I have now written 70 newsletters over the course of the last 18 months.
Its hard to get started.
At any age.
And I am proud that I did.
-
Saying this,
I now feel it is the time to try something new.
And don’t worry,
Your favourite newsletter isn’t going anywhere.
I am still going to write my weekly newsletters providing actionable tips and tricks to help students navigate the education system.
My goal remains to help students and their parents feel confident and in control of their studies whilst they traverse an often confusing, generic and unfair system.
But I feel like I have more to talk about.
-
For whatever reason I have an audience of parents who read my writing.
I truly thank you for indulging me.
So I was thinking about how I could utilise the uniqueness of this relationship,
Mine and yours,
23-year-old business owner to parent,
To add more value to your everyday life.
And I realised the uniqueness is exactly in that relationship.
Most people engage in content from people who are similar to them (views, stage of life, interests etc.) …
Not to stereotype,
But mothers understandably will engage with more content about being a mother which will commonly be created by another mother.
Students usually will do the same with students.
Sports fans with sports fans,
And business owners with business owners.
But our dynamic is fairly unusual.
So I thought,
Why don’t I write about my own experiences and thoughts about growing up from the perspective of a son,
To an audience of parents.
-
Whether I write about how I feel about paying rent in my family home – a conversation my mum and I had today,
Or whether its relationships,
Or maybe even gambling and drinking.
I think it could be interesting for a parent to hear from a non-parent perspective about discussions you might be having, have had, or may have in the future with your own children.
This would not be with the intention of educating at all.
I strongly believe that we would all benefit from engaging with a diverse array of people who have differing life experiences and thus, who we would rarely interactive with in everyday life.
-
So what should you expect?
To be honest,
Not much different.
You will still receive weekly emails from me with strategic education-based advice.
But I will be chucking in a different type of email from time to time about my experiences and thoughts on something your teenager will likely go through as they grow up.
Maybe they will be interesting,
Or maybe no one will read them and I will stop doing them.
We will see,
But I am excited to try.
The first one will be coming out this Sunday and then we will be back to the study advice the Sunday after.
I hope you have a great rest of your week,
Best wishes,
Joel
