As we are coming to the end of the academic year,
I thought it would be a good time to reintroduce myself.
I am Joel Freedman.
I am the CEO and Co-Founder of ILS – Independent Learning Strategies (
https://www.independentlearningstrategies.co.uk/
).
My mum and I combined our life experiences and started ILS in April 2021 to redress the disparity in the education system.
We principally were, and still are, determined to teach students how they can strategically approach their revision and their exams,
So that they can sustain their confidence and wellbeing,
And keep their options open post-GCSEs and A Levels.
We are unfortunately working within a broken,
Neuro-typical,
And overcrowded education system.
Teachers are often not paid or treated fairly,
Leading to lots of students not receiving the personalised level of education they need to reach their potential.

Why are you receiving these emails?
At some point over the last few years, you would have likely seen us pop up on Facebook or Instagram.
After clicking on our link and filling out our form you were added to my free weekly newsletter.
We have worked with 100s and 100s if not 1000s of students over the past few years,
And one of the things I am still proudest of is having written 130 weekly newsletters,
Every single Sunday during term time.
We haven’t made a penny directly from this newsletter,
(Perhaps that will come with time),
But so far, I am really proud to have simply provided consistent free value (I hope) to thousands of you over the past few years.
-
What can you expect from these emails?
Some of you have been reading these emails for 3 years (thank you for indulging me),
And some of you are newer.
In these emails,
I utilise my position as the CEO of an education company,
Someone who has spent the last 3 years full time and the 2 years before that part-time,
7 days a week building this company.
And having personally worked with 100s and 100s of students both in a tutoring and revision coaching capacity,
To provide you all with revision and more broadly education advice.
Rather than telling people about mind maps and flash cards,
My personal approach is aligned with teaching you, and by extension your teenagers, how a student can get more marks in less time,
By spending time on the things that will disproportionally propel them forwards.
My way of working can be summarised by focusing on the WHAT rather than the HOW when it comes to revision.
-
I also occasionally use this platform as a bit of an intermediary between parents and students,
To discuss conversations that parents have with their teenagers,
From the perspective of neither a parent nor a teenager.
Think going on holiday with your friends,
Gambling,
Teenage hygiene
-
Hopefully you find some value in these emails during next academic year so your teenager can get more marks in less time,
And to feel more confident in the process.
I hope you have a great week ahead,
Best wishes,
Joel
